Abstract

Background; Bacterial Vaginosis (VB) is an abnormal condition of vaginal ecological changes characterized by a shift in the balance of vaginal flora dominated by Lactobacillus replaced by anaerobic bacteria, including Gardnerella vaginalis, Mobiluncus, Prevotella, Bacteroides, and Mycoplasma sp. The main risk factors for VB are women from young and old age and do not recognize the level of education, economy, and socio-culture, although these cases generally occur more with the level of education. Method; This study used a quasi-experimental method Non Equivalent Control Group Design. Objective; to determine the effect of the addition of oral probiotics on the antimicrobial effect of metronidazole in the therapy of Bacterial Vaginosis (VB) in non-pregnant patients. Results; There was a non-significant effect (p>0.05) of probiotic addition on the antimicrobial effect of metronidazole in Bacterial Vaginosis (VB) therapy according to Amsel criteria and the clinical condition of the vagina between the Probiotics and Metronidazole groups or with Metronidazole. Conclusion; This study shows that the addition of probiotics to the antimicrobial effect of metronidazole therapy for BV in non-pregnant patients, based on the Nugent Score results, has a significant effect (p <0.05) because the Nugent Score is the gold standard in the examination of Bacterial Vaginosis (VB).
