Abstract

According to the World Health Organization, diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder characterized by high levels of sugar in the blood called hyperglycemia with impaired metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins caused by damage to insulin production and non-optimal insulin work. Hyperglycemia, or increased blood sugar, is a common effect of uncontrolled diabetes and over time causes serious damage to many body systems, especially the nerves and blood vessels. Another definition of diabetes mellitus is a group of symptoms characterized by increased blood glucose levels as a result of both relative and absolute insulin deficiency.
